His Majesty’s Navy

By the second century, the Celestium Empires that give the realm of Untamed Empires its name were racing to explore and pillage the Old World for gold and gems and, above all else, Celestium. The empire with the greatest navy would control the waves, the trade lanes through the Setward Isles, and the routes of the treasure fleets back to their New World bases.

By a mixture of good planning, an island home, a tolerance towards other races? – especially panthrans who made exceptional sailors – and timely advances in naval technology, it was the navy of His Majesty's Empire that developed into the predominant ocean-going power. Not that they had it all their own way.

Competition for control of the high seas

Both the Varlinian Soke and the Empire Of The Dawn challenged His Majesty at every stage, through several wars and several uneasy periods of peace.

The Varlinians had developed very strong merchant ships, capable warships in their own right, and that helped them bring the treasures of the Old World through pirate and sea-monster infested waters. Their early treasure fleets brought back enough booty which the (Patriarch)) reinvested in building vast numbers of fighting ships. They weren’t the best, but they outnumbered the ships of His Majesty’s Navy two to one at certain times.

The Domirians meanwhile focused on building the biggest ships and developing the mightiest cannons that could sink any ship at long ranges.

Despite these efforts, His Majesty’s Navy was still considered the predominant force in the decades leading up to Yr208.
